This direct drive player was developed with emphasis on three key points: accurate rotation, high sensitivity, and isolation of harmful vibrations. The drive unit uses a DC Hall motor with a starting torque of 1 kg-cm.Furthermore, by employing a newly developed FG (frequency control) servo circuit, the accuracy and response speed of the servo circuit have been improved to obtain quick response to dynamic load fluctuations. For the turntable, a 30cm die-cast aluminum turntable is employed, which is dynamically balanced precisely from the casting stage. The turntable has a high thickness of the outer circumference to achieve a mass of inertia of 270 kg/cm2 including the rubber sheet. The power supply section uses a power supply circuit with a constant voltage feedback circuit that maintains a voltage of 24 V even when an output current of 800 mA is applied.
The tone arm uses a newly designed aluminum S-shaped pipe arm. The pipe of this arm is filled with a special filler material to prevent deterioration of sound quality due to pipe resonance. In order to achieve high sensitivity, the gimbal support system has a double structure for vertical and horizontal movement of the rotation axis, which is accurately held by a pivot to achieve high sensitivity. Furthermore, the pivot is made of high-hardness, smooth-contact chrome molybdenum steel with a fully polished finish, which realizes high precision in holding capability and improved durability, resulting in high sensitivity that shows an initial sensitivity of 3mg in both horizontal and vertical directions. The inside force canceller employs a counterweight system, which allows fine adjustment in response to needle pressure.
The cueing lever uses an oil dump system. The wiring material is made of extremely thin and flexible special lead wires so as not to interfere with the high sensitivity of the arm. The head shell is made of magnesium to reduce weight.
Although the Young's modulus of magnesium is 60% that of aluminum, its light weight allows for a thicker wall, and 1.5 times the rigidity of aluminum can be achieved. A 6mm stroke elevation ring rotary arm height adjustment mechanism is provided to accommodate most of the cartridges on the market. This mechanism is of the tight-lock type, so after adjustment, the arm is fixed on a plane rather than a point, providing a structure that is resistant to vibration.
The cabinet is constructed of laminated softwood high-density particleboard, the same material used for the NS-690II. The arm stand and arm base are made of 1kg zinc die-cast and are firmly fixed from the base of the arm.
The insulator is made of a new material with a double structure. The dust cover is made of acrylic styrene.
